  • Microsoft Site Server version 3.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

After applying Service Pack 3 for Microsoft Site Server 3.0 the posting acceptor may fail when uploading files with the following message in the browser:

No files were uploaded
This is followed by a Error while uploading contents dialog box with the following message:
The Web server returned the following error: Unknown error was encountered
This is accompanied by errors in the event log on the Web server from source CPSHOST. The first, with event number 8721, contains the following message:
The file is empty or does not exist
The second, with event number 8957, contains the following message:
User: domain\user Unknown error was encountered
In addition, another error message may display:
The Web server you selected does not indicate support for the service provider you selected
This problem may occur more frequently when uploading larger files.

  1. Copy Cpshost.dll.32 from "\Microsoft Site Server\sp3\backup" to "\Inetpub\Scripts"

  2. Rename the current Cpshost.dll in "\Inetpub\Scripts" to Cpshost.sp3

  3. Rename Cpshost.dll.32 in "\Inetpub\Scripts" to Cpshost.dll

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server 3.0.
